About Sierra Animal Wellness Center

Dr Rena Ferreira started a small clinic in a room of the old post office/cafe in Gold Run, CA in 1997.  She was willing to rent the room so she could have a place to do acupuncture on some of her clients' small animal pets.  Dr Rena has a ranch call practice largely caring for horses, llamas, goats, sheep and cattle.  When some of her large animal clients saw the tremendous improvement in their large pets they begged Rena to try it on their smaller pets.  In order to do that she found a room to rent near her home in Gold Run.

Dr Peggy met Rena at a llama medicine seminar in September 2000.  She had been becoming  interested in practicing in a more holistic way and asked Rena if she needed any help.  Rena, who is normally in a constant state of overwork, said she would love to have someone come in to handle the day to day emergencies so she could focus on the acupuncture and Chinese medicine.

In October, 2003, Dr Peggy was able to enter the International Veterinary Acupuncture training program.  She completed the program in March 2004 and began the Chinese Herbal training program with the Chi Institute in Florida.

Since then the demand for Holistic Veterinary Care has been steadily increasing.  The clinic has expanded to fill the entire building.  The staff has grown from one to eight.
